Is there a registration fee?

Sled hockey is an expensive sport. We strive to offer a low yearly registration fee for returning players.

Are there other fees?

You are required to pay a yearly registration fee to USA Hockey. The current fee is $46.00 per year. https://membership.usahockey.com/faq

How much does equipment cost?

We strive to assist new players with their first set of pads, a helmet, and sticks. Thereafter, players upgrade equipment at their expense. Individuals have the option to apply for outside grant assistance to help offset equipment expense.

When does the season begin?

We typically begin our season in late August or early September and practice through Spring.

Where do the Mighty Penguins practice?

We are proud to have our home ice at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township. At times, due to scheduling, practices may be scheduled at surrounding rinks.

When do the Mighty Penguins Practice?

We do our best to provide weekly weekend practices or late afternoon weekday practices. You will receive access to your team schedule once your team is assigned.

Where do I find my schedule?

All practices and important organization information is provided in SportsEngine. Once you are assigned to a team, you will receive an email SportsEngine Invitation.

Who pays for tournament travel expenses?

The Mighty Penguins pays for tournament registration fees. Tournament travel is optional. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the athlete. Individuals have the option to apply for outside grant assistance to help offset travel expense.

Is sled hockey safe?

As with all sports, there is a chance of incurring an injury. To minimize the risk of injury, the Mighty Penguins assign athletes to skill-based adult or youth teams to provide a safer individual hockey experience.
