Kaden Herchenroether

Kaden Herchenroether started playing sled hockey when she was 13. She quickly became an important piece of the Mighty Penguins Juniors Team, which was having a stellar season until the pandemic hit. Now age 16, Kaden was one of three females in the country invited to attend the 2021 USA Hockey Sled Select Camp. She hopes to someday be selected for the US Women’s Development Sled Hockey Team.

Born with spina bifida, Kaden loves the speed and freedom she experiences on the ice. She enjoys attending tournaments with her team. A defenseman, Kaden relishes stealing the puck from and checking her opponents.

Sled hockey is not Kaden’s only sport. She also plays wheelchair basketball and has twice won Pittsburgh’s 10K Great Race on her handcycle. In addition, Kaden is an accomplished adaptive skier. You can catch her flying down the slopes at Hidden Valley most weekends in the winter.

Off the ice, Kaden is a gifted artist, voracious reader, fiction writer, outstanding student, and social justice advocate.
